Srinagar, Oct 8 (UNI) Casual labourers of Kashmir tourism department on Thursday held a protest demonstration in Srinagar in support of their demands which included release of salaries since July 2014 and regularization of their service in the department.
Holding placards which read “ release pending wages from July 2014 till date”, tourism labourers kay saath Insaf karoo”, the agitated labourers said despite repeated assurance they were not paid their salaries.
We are facing starvation and our children were not allowed to appear in examination because we could not pay their tuition fees, they said.
The protesting casual labours said they are working in the tourism department as casual Labours for the past more than ten years. But, they said they were not paid their wages since July 2014.
The protestors said out of 342 casual labourers uploaded by the department on NIC website of the finance department, only 14 are getting wages while other are being deprived for unknown reasons.
They also demanded implementation of Minimum Wage Act policy across the Jammu and Kashmir.
