Contactless concept introduced in Mangaluru International airport

Mangaluru, Oct 8(UNI) With a view to minimize physical contact between the staff and the passengers, Mangalore International Airport has introduced contactless concept.

Earlier, boarding pass, ticket and documents were to be presented to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel before entering the airport. Now, it is enough if the documents are shown to the person sitting inside the glass counter from outside. The baggage tags are not issued but sent by SMS.

The passengers at the security check counter should show their boarding passes to the cameras and those who do not have passes can scan their barcode in the mobile and get printed passes. The trays in which the belongings of passengers like mobile phones, purses, etc are kept for security check, are not touched by hand. Trays once used are sanitized before reuse.

In the past, the airline staff used to scan boarding passes, however, now passengers themselves have to do it themselves. As boarding passes in mobile may pose problems in scanning, passes are being printed even now, and otherwise, the entire process has become paperless.

Archana, IndiGo station manager said that in the three-seater aircraft, the passengers in the middle are given body gowns and the airline employees use a well-equipped kit for the wheelchair passengers.

As of now only domestic flights like SpiceJet, IndiGo and Air India are operating. Overseas flights are only those operated under the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’.

‘Airport Director V V Rao said on Thursday that as a precautionary measure in the interests of the passenger safety touchless system has been adopted to minimize contact between the passengers and the staff. The passengers have provisions to do online booking and use online baggage tags.
