Banyana Banyana midfielder Noko Matlou has moved on to greener pastures after signing with Spanish club Eibar.

The 34-year-old will leave the Sasol Women's League team Maindies FC after their season was suspended due to the global pandemic.

Matlou is looking forward to her move to Eibar stating that it's a decision that has "changed her life".

"The move came last month in August, one of my team-mates recommended me and I'm very excited about the move because it'll change my life," Matlou told sports anchor Lebo Motsoeli.

Matlou will join a host of Banyana Banyana stars plying their trade overseas with Van Wyk signing for Glasgow City, Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Zanale Nhlapo also recently signing for Women's Champions League side KFF Mitrovica FC in Kosovo.

"Most of our players are playing in Europe, which will change a lot of things in South African women's football. It shows that South Africa is doing well," she said.

Matlou is expected to join Eibar - which is managed by Iker Dorronsoro - in the "upcoming days".

"I'm looking forward to joining my team and to make an impact because I'm not there to add numbers, I'm going there to work hard and do well and put the team in a good position," said Matlou.

Matlou is the second most capped Banyana Banyana player with 154 appearances - behind team-mate Janine van Wyk (170).

In 2018, Matlou became the first South African to be named African Women's Footballer of the Year.
