HC directs Punjab DGP to form SIT headed by DIG level officer to re-investigate rape case

Moga, Oct 8 (UNI) Unsatisfied with the investigation made by Moga Police in a rape case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta on Wednesday to constitute a new SIT headed by DGP level officer to re-investigate the case.

Nihalsinghwala DSP Manmohan Singh on Thursday said in this case the victim alleged that former Youth Congress leader Varun Joshi threatened to upload her video in compromising position with some other persons on social media and demanded Rs 5 lakh or to make physical relations with him.

The victim said she paid Rs 4 lakh to one Balwinder Singh of Himatpura and accused Joshi confirmed of receiving the money and assured of deleting all the videos. Later, he again started demanding more money and in April this year accused Joshi came to her and demanded Rs 3 lakh if she wants to save herself. She alleged that the accused took her to secluded place and raped her.

The single judge bench of Justice George Masih said having considered the submission made by the counsel for the parties and also gone through the challan and other documents, the court is not satisfied with the investigation related to her and directed the DGP to constitute a SIT to be headed by DIG rank officer and to submit a report within 30 days.
