Meghalaya Health Minister’s daughter among COVID-19 positive

Shillong, Oct 8 (UNI) The 25 years old daughter of Meghalaya’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Alexander Laloo Hek is among the fresh 123 COVID-19 cases detected on Thursday, pushing the active cases in the State to 2,369 while 138 new recoveries were also registered to bring the number of recovered cases to 4,832.

“She was tested positive for COVID-19 through Rapid Antigen Test and CB-NAAT on Wednesday. Her vitals are within normal and is in home isolation,” Hek, who is presently at New Delhi on an official visit, told UNI over the phone.

“Contract tracing is on to find the source of the infection,” he said, adding that other family members have tested negative.

The Health Minister’s daughter, who is a student in London, is here due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Hek, who is the only BJP member in the Conrad Sangma-led government, also informed that his house at Relief and Rehabilitation (RR) Colony here has been declared a ‘micro containment zone’ in the wake of detection of a positive case.

Out of the 123 new cases, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War informed that 79 are from East Khasi Hills district, 14 from South Garo Hils district, seven from West Garo Hills district, six from South West Khasi Hills district, three each from North Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district and one each from East Garo Hills district, East Jaintia Hills district and West Khasi Hills district.

Till date, 1,67,265 tests have been conducted out of which 1,60,004 have tested negative, even as 45,205 entrants from outside the state were registered till 2.00 pm on Thursday.

Meghalaya has so far detected a total of 7261 COVID-19 cases out of which 2369 are active, 60 deceased and 4832 are recovered.

On the other hand, the superintendent of the Tura Civil Hospital, West Garo Hills district has informed that due to the detection of positive cases for COVID-19 among health care workers of the Molecular Laboratory, the lab will remain closed up to October 14 for sanitization and further testing of the staff.
