Depression forced Ashwani Kumar take his own life: DGP

Shimla, Oct 8(UNI) The mortal remains of former Governor of Nagaland and CBI director Ashwani Kumar, who died by suicide, were consigned to flames at a public crematorium at Sanjouli in the outskirt of this capital town on Thursday.

State police Director General Mr Sanjay Kundu said that Kumar's body was found hanging by his son and daughter- in-law around 1910 hrs on Wednesday from the attic's ceiling at his private residence in Shimla when they were heading out for a walk.

Kumar usually mediated in his attic in the evening but they found the door leading to the attic locked inside.

On getting no response, they broke open two doors to reach the attic and found him hanging from the ceiling by a rope.

They cut open the rope and brought him down and informed the police who arrived at the scene and rushed him to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Kumar's wife told the police that he had visited the Mall road and Kalibari shrine in the afternoon, the DGP said told a news channel.

His family is not suspecting any foul play. 'We found a lucid suicide note from the spot in which deceased wrote that 'he is ending his life due to disease and disability'

The DGP said that Forensic team has collected the rope, ladder and other items found related to the suicide and the spot of the incident has been photographed. The statement of the family is being recorded.
