Will be underpinned by a new carbon fibre platform, called McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA).
It will be powered by a V6 hybrid powertrain with medium-range all-electric capabilities.
Teaser images reveal a similar design philosophy to current McLaren cars.
Will be developed and produced at the McLaren Composites Technology Centre (MCTC) in Sheffield.
Currently, aside from the discontinued McLaren P1 hypercar, the Speedtail is McLaren’s only other model with hybrid propulsion. Well that’s soon about to change as the folks from Woking have released the first teaser images of an upcoming unnamed hybrid supercar that will debut in the first half of 2021. And there’s plenty to talk about:
To kick things off, the unnamed Mclaren will sit between the GT and the 720S in the carmaker’s lineup. It will also be the first model to be built under McLaren’s new carbon fibre structure, christened McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA). This new platform is optimised for hybrid powertrains and latest-generation driver technologies.
The model teased may be wrapped around heavy camouflage, but it does feature some notable design traits from modern McLarens like the low-slung front end as well as the headlamp and fender setup. The rear features a big diffuser with dual exhausts on top flanked by sleek tail lamps.
The main crux of the new McLaren supercar is under the hood of course. It will be powered by an all-new V6 internal combustion engine combined with a hybrid setup. Detailed specs haven’t been revealed yet, but McLaren has hinted at an all-electric mode pushing out medium-range capabilities.
McLaren’s latest hybrid supercar will be developed and produced at the McLaren Composites Technology Centre (MCTC) in Sheffield. What’s more is that this new platform will spawn more McLaren hybrid supercars within the next few years. More details including the name of the new McLaren are expected to surface as we get closer to its 2021 debut.
