Calangute police crack two snatching cases, arrest six

Mapusa: Calangute police has cracked two snatching cases and arrested six persons and recovered stolen mobile phones and gold in melted form.

According to Calangute police, in one case, a native of Belagavi, Kiran Patil, had lodged a complaint on October 4.

Police said that the complainant’s car was stopped and his gold chain, weighing 20 grams, worth Rs 75,000, was snatched. The car was stopped by an alleged accused claiming that it had hit his scooter, the police said.

During the course of investigation, Calangute police team led by PI Nolasco Raposo, PSI Vishal Mandrekar, police constables Vinay Shrivastav, Suresh Naik apprehended the main alleged accused identified as Sunil Rathod (24), a native of Bijapur and currently residing at Orda in Candolim. 

Police further arrested another three persons, identified as Shirish Irappanawar (31), Rakesh Arolkar (38), both residents of Tivim and Sarvesh Raikar (28), a resident of Panaji and all working with a security firm as bouncers.

Police also recovered three stolen mobile phones and melted gold.   

Police said that all the alleged accused were produced before the JMFC, Mapusa that remanded them to 5 days in police custody.

Police further informed that Sunil Rathod will be arrested again in another case wherein he along with a friend had allegedly snatched two mobile phones and cash of Rs 6,500 and a gold chain with locked worth Rs 60,000.

In this connection, Chinmay Lodha from Pune had lodged a complaint.  Police said that Rathod has confessed to his involvement and his two friends identified as Nishan Mogar (22), a Karwar native and presently residing at Porvorim and Birender Kumar (25), from Bihar and residing at St Cruz were taken into custody and stolen mobile phones and gold chain were recovered.

Calangute police are further investigating the case.
