Assembly elections : ECI issues revised guidelines for inviting star campaigners

Chandigarh, Oct 8 (UNI) In view of COVID-19 pandemic, Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued revised guidelines for inviting star campaigners to conduct the Bihar Assembly Elections and by-election in Baroda (Haryana) and other states in an independent, fair, peaceful, transparent and safe manner.

The new guidelines issued, shall be deemed to have come into force with immediate effect, a spokesman of the office of Haryana Chief Electroral Officer said here.

He said that as per revised guidelines, the maximum limit of number of star campaigners for recognized National and State political parties shall be 30 in place of 40 and for unrecognized registered political parties shall be 15 in place of 20 during the period of pandemic.

He said the period of submission of list of star campaigners is extended from 7 days to 10 days from the date of notification.

If a political party has already submitted the list of star campaigners, they can now resubmit the revised list within the stipulated time period, he informed.

He said applications seeking permission for publicity should be submitted to the District Election Authorities atleast 48 hours before the start of campaign, so that necessary security measures can be implemented in time by the concerned stakeholders.
