Odd-semester for academic year 2020-21 likely from November 18: UGC
UGCMANGALURU: Odd semester for the academic year 2020-21 for under-graduate and post-graduate students is expected to commence from November 18, if all goes well. This is as per a plan that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has drawn at its emergent meeting held on September 21. Accordingly, institutions have been permitted to complete the admission process by October 31 and classes scheduled to start from November 1.
In case there is a delay in declaration of the result of qualifying examinations, universities have been permitted to start the academic year from November 18. UGC has also directed all universities to follow a 6-day week pattern for the academic season 2020-21 and 2021-22 to compensate for the loss for this batch of students. Institutions may continue the teaching learning process in offline/online/blended mode, the UGC guidelines noted.
To help mitigate financial hardships that parents face due to the lockdown and other reasons, UGC has directed that full refund of fees should be made if any admission is cancelled or students migrate for this semester as a special case. The guideline has made it clear that there should be zero cancellation charges up to November 30. For cancellation/withdrawal of admission after that colleges may deduct not more than Rs 1000 as processing fee.
To make up for the delay in the start of academic session, UGC has directed universities to curtail breaks/vacations so that this batch of students gets their final results for award of degree on time. UGC has stressed that the guidelines as issued on April 29 and July 6 highlighting modes of teaching, conduct of examination, importance of physical and social distancing remain unchanged and should be mandatorily followed at all times.
As per the calendar suggested for the academic session 2020-21, the odd semester examination will be held between March 8, 2021 to March 26. The even semester classes will start on April 5, 2021. The even semester examinations are planned between August 9 to 21, 2021 and after the semester break from August 22 to 29, 2021, the odd semester session for the academic year 2021-22 will commence from August 30, 2021.
