A 34-year-old fisherman was hacked to death by unidentified persons near the fishing harbour in Kasimedu on Monday night.

Chennai: Following alert that a man was lying in a pool of blood near the harbour, a police team rushed to the spot. They found the body with wounds all over, and sent it to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The man was later identified as Sudarmani of Thangal in Tiruvottiyur. The police suspect he could have been murdered over business rivalry. After registering a case, a special team was formed to nab the suspects. Meanwhile, eight men surrendered before Vaniyambadi Magistrate in connection with the murder of an advocate-politician, Rajesh of Villivakkam, on Sunday night. They were identified as V Murugesan (30), R Srinath (21) and M Ramesh (22) of Kumbakonam, A Arun (22) of Vyasarpadi, M Vairamani (20), R Rukeshwaran (19), G Sanjay (21) and R Kishorekumar (26). They were remanded in judicial custody.
