Meghalaya only NE state to receive excess rainfall this monsoon

GUWAHATI: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura have received normal rainfall, while Meghalaya is the only northeastern state to experience “excess rainfall” during the four-month-long monsoon season which has officially ended on September 30. Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur all recorded deficit rainfall.
Between June 1 to September 30, Meghalaya has recorded 3982.9 mm rainfall, which is 39 percent above normal. A 19 percent deficiency to 19 percent excess rainfall is considered the “normal range”, while 20 percent to 59 percent more rainfall comes under the “excess rainfall” category. Shortage of rainfall between 20 to 59 percent is tagged as “deficit rainfall” by the IMD.
Among the northeastern states that received rainfall in the normal range, Arunachal Pradesh is in the top of the chart with 1943.7 mm rainfall during the period. This was 13 percent more rainfall than the normal. On the other hand, Assam and Tripura have recorded 1651.1 mm and 1292.9 mm rainfall respectively.
Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram, however, recorded “deficit rainfall” while monsoon has been normal in the country with 957.6 mm rainfall that is 9% above normal.
