Greater Noida: Three hold bank staff hostage, flee with Rs 3 lakh in cash

Bank officials told police the robbers posed as customers
GREATER NOIDA: Three armed criminals looted a bank in Sector Beta II of Greater Noida on Tuesday afternoon, the police said.
The accused entered the bank, thrashed a security guard, held bank officials and customers at gunpoint, and fled with over Rs 3 lakh in cash, they said.
At 3pm, two of the accused entered the bank, posing as customers, bank officials told the police. Minutes later, the third accused entered the bank with the pistol in his hand. He tried to overpower the guard, who fired a bullet but the former attacked him with the pistol’s butt, leading to a fracture in his skull.
Deputy commissioner of police Rajesh Kumar Singh said the accused had confined the bank officials and the customers to the manager’s room.
“They had asked the cashier to empty all the cash (Rs 2.16 lakh) in their bag. Before leaving the premises, one of the accused noticed a customer carrying a bag following which he snatched it and found around Rs 1.74 cash in it. They took the bag and fled the spot,” he said.
Singh added the bank workers had raised emergency siren, which prompted the robbers to leave the premises within 10 minutes. The police were then informed following which a team reached the spot.
The guard was rushed to a nearby hospital. The police recorded details of all the persons present in the bank, including Ankush’s, who was robbed of his bag.
Based on the complaint of bank manager Vipin Kharwal, an FIR was lodged under section 394 (Voluntarily Causing hurt) of the IPC.
“The incident was captured in CCTV cameras installed inside the premises," said Love Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and order) in Noida.
