Flier from Dubai caught with 74 iPhones at Chandigarh airport

The phones are said to be worth Rs 49.98 lakh
LUDHIANA: The customs commissionerate, Ludhiana, has recovered 74 Apple iPhones worth Rs 49.28 lakh from a Dubai passenger at the Chandigarh international airport on Saturday, calling it is one of the biggest seizures in smuggling of mobile phones.
Arvinder Singh Ranga, commissioner, customs, Ludhiana, under whose jurisdiction the Chandigarh airport falls, said, “A resident of Delhi who arrived by IndiGo flight 6E-56 from Dubai on October 3 was intercepted while crossing the green channel. As many as 74 Apple iPhones were recovered from him. The person was arrested and the goods seized.”
Sources said the smuggling attempt was probably made due to the huge price difference of Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 in the models of Apple iPhones in the markets of UAE and India. There is also a huge demand for this brand, making it one of the favourites of smugglers.
