FOXBORO — New England Patriots defensive star Stephon Gilmore has tested positive for coronavirus, ESPN and the NFL Network reported Wednesday.

The cornerback joins quarterback Cam Newton and practice-squad defensive lineman Bill Murray on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The team’s practice was canceled Wednesday.

Gilmore, the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year, is in the fourth year of the five-year, $65 million deal. He was signed by the Patriots as a free agent in 2017, one of the biggest free agent deals the Patriots have ever made for a cornerback.

The Patriots learned that their starting quarterback, Cam Newton, tested positive for the coronavirus late Friday night.

Because of Newton's positive test result, and another on the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL postponed the Patriots-Chiefs game from Sunday to Monday.

The Patriots offense struggled against the Chiefs without Newton, as Kansas City came away with a 26-10 win Monday night.

New England is scheduled to play the Denver Broncos in Foxborough on Sunday.
