Devastated dad of teen girl who was ruled to have killed herself insists she may have met foul play - and accuses police of bungling investigation

The father of a teenage girl who was ruled to have killed herself believes she may have met with foul play and is demanding action after what he claims was a bungled investigation.

Eden Westbrook was 15 years old when she died in February 2015 at St Helens in Tasmania's north-east.

A year later a coroner ruled she died by suicide.

But the teenager's father, Jason, is pushing for the inquest into her death to be reopened as he claims serious errors were made during the investigation.

Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard has since written to Mr Westbrook telling him there was no police wrongdoing following the 15-year-old's death, The Mercury reported.

He disputed the father's claims that police did not interview key people that may have been connected to Eden's death.

Mr Westbrook also questioned why CCTV of the night before the tragedy had not been given to the coroner.

Mr Tilyard said it was because the footage was of low quality.

'My plan is to continue with the tough questions until the truth is written for Eden,' Mr Westbrook said.

Eden's parents were also distressed to learn the coroner's findings, which held private details about her death, had been seen by the then Police Minister, Rene Hidding, without their permission.

Mr Tilyard said the report had been seen by Mr Hidding in a lawful manner.

Mr Westbrook, desperate for answers, contacted Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein.

Mr Gutwein said he was unable to intervene with the case and that it was 'quite correct' for Mr Hidding to see the coroner's report.

The Coronial Division has since responded to Mr Westbrook's request and Chief Magistrate Catherine Geason is reviewing the application to reopen the inquest.
