A temple priest in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi has moved court alleging that local AIADMK MLA A Prabhu abducted his daughter and married her forcibly.

A habeas corpus petition has been filed before the Madras High Court by the priest of Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi Temple Swaminathan stating that his daughter S Soundarya was abducted by AIADMK MLA A Prabhu.

35-year-old Dalit MLA A Prabhu had an inter-caste love marriage with the 19-year-old girl Soundarya, and their marriage was organised by Prabhu’s family on Monday.

Now, Soundarya's family has alleged that she was abducted and forced to marry the AIADMK MLA.

The case is going to be heard by a bench of the Madras High Court tomorrow.

After his marriage, the Kalakurchi MLA posted a video and said "Soundarya and I married each other willingly and there was no coercion or abduction. The rumours that I abducted her or forced her to marry me are not true. We have been in love for the past four months."

He further added, “My family and I had approached Soundarya’s family for the marriage but her family refused to give their blessings.”

In the video, Prabhu goes on to say that the couple got married with the permission of his parents who were also witnesses to the wedding ceremony.

S Soundarya, the newly wedded wife of the AIADMK Kalakurchi MLA says that she and her husband had been in love for the past 4-6 months and that she had not been forced or threatened into marrying the legislator.

Unhappy over the inter-caste marriage, her family has filed a complaint that she was abducted by the MLA so that he could marry her.

According to media reports, the girl's father also tried to attempt suicide by dousing himself in petrol and threatening self-immolation at the couple's residence.

However, the local police intervened and took him in custody.

Contrary to the couple's claims, the girl's family has alleged that the MLA had been in love with her for the past four years (when she was a minor) and "lured" her into a relationship.
