JD(S) picks Ammajamma for Sira Assembly by-election

Bengaluru, Oct 6 (UNI) The Opposition JD(S) in Karnataka decided to field Ammajamma, wife of late party MLA Sathyanarayana, as the party nominee for the Sira Assembly by-election scheduled for November 3.
Former prime minister and the JD(S) National Leader H D Deve Gowda announced the party's
nominee to contest the by-elections.
The by-election was necessitated after the demise of the sitting JD(S) member Sathyanarayana, who
had got elected in the May-2018 assembly elections.
The party candidate Ammajamma is the wife of the former member of the Sira Assembly seat, Sathyanarayana, who had passed away recently after a brief illness.
The Congress party, which was the coalition partner of the JD(S) government led by H D Kumaraswamy, had named former Minister T B Jayachandra for the Sira seat.
The ruling BJP is yet to announce its candidate for the seat.

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 6 (UNI) Kerala reported 25 deaths due to COVID-19 on Tuesday whereas 7,871 people tested positive to the virus, 4,981 patients have recovered from the disease and 87,738 patients are undergoing treatment in the State, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.
