Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer of Mirzapur Season 2. Mirzapur’s storyline follows druglord Kaleen Bhaiya and his antics in the titular small town of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Thrown into the mix are elements of romance, action and copious amounts of profanity. Season 1 ended on an emotional high with two prominent characters’ deaths (Bablu Pandit and Sweety Gupta). Season 2 will be all about revenge and politics as the deceased persons’ partners Golu and Guddu will take up arms against Kaleen Bhaiya, Munna and their gang.
Actor Shriya Pilgaonkar, who essayed the role of Sweety in Season 1, had recently shared a touching note on social media about her stint in the series. Sharing a collage of Sweety on her Instagram page, the actor wrote, “I just have to say this. There is no bigger reward for an actor than to be known & loved for the characters they portray on screen. Sweety Gupta has given me more than I could have ever imagined. I’m overwhelmed by how many ‘miss you‘ messages I’ve received ever since Mirzapur S2 was announced. Your suggestions of resurrecting Sweety are incredibly creative & amusing but I take it all as a sign of your love.”
“I loved playing Swarangini, a girl who not only stood up for herself but for those around her and was always unafraid to speak her mind. The credit goes to our brilliant writers Puneet Krishna & Vineet Krishna. This character and the show means a lot to me and I’m grateful for all that has come my way after the show released. While there is no scope of a poonarjanma as some of you have suggested, I just want to say THANK YOU for all your love and messages,” she added.
For ardent fans of Mirzapur, it’s the season of celebration as the web series is coming back after two years with its second season. With season 2’s trailer out, we reveal why the first season was extremely popular with the masses.
1. Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya
Pankaj Tripathi plays a don, Kaleen Bhaiya, in the Amazon Prime Video series Mirzapur. As much as we have loved Tripathi in his positive, feel-good roles, it was thrilling to watch him in a negative role in this crime thriller. In my opinion, Tripathi is the best thing to have happened to Mirzapur. And we are hoping he will be just as extraordinary in the second season.
2. The pulp-kitsch setting
When the first season of the show dropped, it was called the kitsch cousin of Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur. However, over the years, this kitsch setting has become the norm in the OTT space. READ MORE
Speaking on the trailer release of Mirzapur 2, Harshita Gaur said “I’m very excited for everyone to see the trailer, hear their feedback and counting days for Mirzapur 2 to start streaming. It will be interesting to gauge audience’s reaction to my character because Dimpy has evolved to a large extent. For Dimpy this season has been quite conflicting, she is trying to create her own reality. After her brother and best friends death, her principles are intact but her perception of reality is shifting. Also this role will always be close to my heart since I have very vivid childhood memories of Mirzapur."
During the trailer launch of Mirzapur 2, Priyanshu Painyuli shared, "When I played a negative character in Extraction, my mother said don't take up such violent roles. Then I told her I was going to mirzapur next. (Laughs)."
"#Mirzapur2 looks promising. Top-notch trailer giving the vibe season 2 gonna raise the bar," @isyedshawon said via Twitter.
"The Mirzapur 2 trailer looks dope. And @MrVijayVarma is a fantastic addition to an already impressive ensemble cast," Twitter user @arjunswami wrote on Twitter.
Soon after the trailer release, the fans of Mirzapur shared several memes on social media.
Mirzapur creator-writer Puneet Krishna said in a statement, "We created the first season with the intent to ‘get our hands dirty’ with a pure hinterland drama; what really surprised us was the worldwide love that’s grown for our local show. The success of the first season has set a benchmark and encouraged us to take the new season several notches higher. Viewers will be in for an immersive experience through the plot twists, character developments and captivating storyline in Season 2.”
Ahead of the release of Mirzapur 2 trailer, Richa Chadha took to Instagram and wrote, "When @yehhaimirzapur released, people said bar @alifazal9 was a revelation! Because they’d seen him only in softer parts. But that’s an actors job! To become almost unrecognisable from one part to the next. My Hollywoodia Bollywoodia does that quite well! He can be chilling with Dame Dench with ease, while competing to become Mr पूर्वांचल! The trailer of part 2 is about to drop and rest assured, you shall be surprised again. ❣️ गुड्डू पंडित is on the way, बस रस्ते में अंडे का ठेला दिख गया था तो थोड़ा खा पी में आएँगे ! Congratulations team."
In this exclusive interview with The Indian Express, Pankaj Tripathi talks about the second season of Mirzapur and his character Kaleen Bhaiya. He also opens up about his approach towards a character and his relationship with a story.
Amit Sial, who appeared in Mirzapur season one as Ram Sharan Maurya, Special Police Officer assigned to Mirzapur, shared, "My character just got a trailer in Season 1, the film starts in this season. The motive is still to fight crime."
Vijay Varma expressed his excitement of being a part of Mirzapur 2. During the trailer launch, Varma said, "I was a fan of this show. After Gully Boy, Puneet approached me immediately. I was the person who was asking, 'when will season 2 come?' The reach of this show is more than any other, and the fandom is unparalleled. I am lucky to be a part of this show."
Talking about his character Ramakant Pandit during Mirzapur 2 trailer launch, Rajesh Tailang said, "I think it's not easy to live in the world of Mirzapur, especially for a person like Ramakant Pandit. In a classical way, he is the hero of Mirzapur. It is a challenge for an actor to make a positive character interesting."
"For Dimpi, the events at the end of season 1 were a big thing for her. Her principles are still there, but her reality has changed. The conflict in character is there because of her principles and the reality that has changed for her," says Harshita Shekhar Gaur during Mirzapur 2 trailer launch.
"The buzz for season 1 is still on. I'm still amazed and amused by it. The fans kept season 1 alive for us while we were shooting season 2. I live vicariously through my characters, and Bina is one of those. Bina has faced some humiliation in Season 1 and season 2 has enough attention on her. She knows how to take advantage of the situation. She knows about everyone's Achille's heel," says Rasika Dugal during the trailer launch of Mirzapur 2.
"Golu from season 1 to 2 has been challenged. Two people she loved have been brutally taken away from her. She is here for revenge now," says Shweta Tripathi during the trailer launch of Mirzapur 2.
"I wanted to bring out the humane side of Munna despite him being so dark. Mirzapur gets quite intense and dark at times," says Divyenndu Sharmaa during the trailer launch of Mirzapur 2.
"The Hangover of Season 1 is still on. Every day there is a new meme, a new thing in the news. People tell us every day how much they love us and that means a lot," says Divyenndu Sharmaa during the trailer launch of Mirzapur 2.
"The audience has kept us in the news for the last 2 years. I missed Vikrant on the set. I called him from the set and was quite emotional," says Ali Fazal during the trailer launch of Mirzapur 2.
