Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi says that he is looking forward to working alongside Rulani Mokwena in "harmony and respect" after their joint head coach appointments at the Tshwane club.

"First, I must thank the president (Patrice Motsepe) of the club and thank the board of Mamelodi Sundowns for considering us," Mngqithi told the media on Monday evening.

"Under normal circumstances people don't think better coaches will come from somewhere else.

"We really appreciate that, and we promise to work with a lot of harmony and respect amongst each other to try and make sure the team continues where it ended."

In a shocking turn of events, Pitso Mosimane announced his departure from the Brazilians after eight years at the helm to take up a position at Egyptian giants Al Ahly starting on Friday last week.

Mokwena was touted to join the former Bafana Bafana mentor but opted to remain in South Africa as he described it as being "loyal" to Sundowns after the club announced him as joint head coach of Masandawana.

Mosimane then revealed that former Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson will be his second in command at Al Ahly after Mokwena chose to remain at Chloorkop.

Meanwhile, Mngqithi is full of praise for the young coach and strongly believes that Mokwena has all the qualities to become successful.

"Rulani is a blessing in disguise for me because I know the quality that he brings into the team," Mngqithi said.

"I know what he offers, and the future is bright. He is a very bright coach that must be well supported.

"Sundowns must always give as much support to him because I believe he will come right and make us all proud because he is a very good coach. And he has respect when it comes to me."
