Kolkata, Oct 06 (UNI) Acclaimed octogenarian Bengali film actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who was suffering from respiratory problem, on Tuesday tested Covid-19 positive.
His Covid-19 report came positive this morning.
He was admitted in Bellevue hospital in the city at around 11 AM.
Hospital sources said his condition is stable.
The celebrated actor earned encomiums for his astounding role as "Feluda" in Oscar-winning Director Satyajit Ray's movies.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 toll in Bengal rose to 5,255 with the death of 61 persons on Monday, while the tally touched 2,73,679 with 3,348 new confirmed cases.
According to the latest State Government Health bulletin, the active cases accounted for 27,717, while the number of discharged cases stood at 2,40,707.
The percentage of discharged rose to 87.95 per cent.
The bulletin said the total number of samples tested stood at 34,38,128 with 40,140 tested till yesterday.
While the city recorded the highest number of 1783 deaths so far, surrounding districts of North 24 Parganas and Howrah came second and third respectively with 1179 and 589 fatalities.
South 24 Parganas accounted for 337 deaths, the toll in Hooghly stood at 240, Darjeeling 113, Paschim and Purba Midnapore 150 and 141 respectively, Malda 56, Murshidabad 68, Nadia 100, Paschim Bardhaman 73, Purba Bardhaman 55, Jalpaiguri 61, Uttar Dinajpur 39, Dakshin Dinajpur 35, Birbhum 32, Alipurduar 60, Kalimpong 7, Cooch Behar 42, Purulia 20, Jhargram 9 and Bankura 63.
