Chennai, Oct 5 (UNI) The Opposition DMK today took out a
candle light march to Raj Bhavan to seeking justice to the
Hathras rape victim in Uttar Pradesh.
DMK President M K Stalin, along with party General Secretary
Duraimurugan and senior leaders launched rally at the Little
Mount, from where women’s wing secretary and Lok Sabha MP
Kanimozhi led the candle light march to Raj Bhavan.
The rally, which commenced from Rajiv Gandhi statue in Guindy,
was to urge the Uttar Pradesh government to protect women,
minorities, scheduled tribes whose safety has become a question
mark in that State.
Alleging that the UP government was trying to protect the accused
and cover up the case, he said the incident has created ripples
not only in Uttar Pradesh, but also across India.
Condemning the alleged manhandling of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi
and Priyanka when they went to meet the families of the victim, he
said democratic and human rights were violated and demanded an
apology.
He also urged the UP police to withdraw the cases registered against
the Congress leaders in this regard.
