The coronavirus situation in India is witnessing sharp improvement with the highest number of recoveries in the world. To further bring the pandemic under control, the government has now announced that it is aiming to receive up to 50 crore doses of coronavirus vaccine by July 2021 to inoculate at least 25 crore people.
The development indicates that the first available vaccines may be given to people in India by July next year. The government also mentioned that the states have been given time till October-end to submit a list of priority candidates for receiving the vaccine. While India seems to be preparing an elaborate plan to eradicate the pandemic, the high number of daily reported cases remains a concern.

12:05 PM: India has reported 76,637 recoveries in 24 hours, more than the daily spike of cases at 74,442, according to the health ministry. "76,737 recoveries have been registered in the last 24 hours in the country whereas the new confirmed cases stand at 74,442. The new recoveries have exceeded the new cases in recent days," said the health ministry.
11:58 AM: In cases where Covid victims died due to negligence of state-run on Civic body hospitals, their families are entitled to receive compensation, said the Bombay High Court on Monday. The court has asked the Maharashtra government to clarify its stand on 11 such cases.
11:07 AM: Bars and restaurants in Mumbai on Monday have resumed services today after months of staying shut due to the coronavirus pandemic. All such services have resumed from today with 50 per cent capacity.
10:50 AM: India's recovery rate has improved further to 84.34 per cent, according to the health ministry. India has the highest number of recoveries in the world at the moment. The number of deaths in India has also witnessed a marginal dip in the past couple of days.
10:45 AM: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that nearly 8 crore samples have been tested for Covid-19 in the country up to October 4. ICMR said a total of 7,99,82,394 samples have been tested so far. Of these, 9,89,860 samples were tested yesterday.
9:19 AM: India has recorded a daily spike of 74,442 cases and 903 deaths on Monday. The total number of cases in India has gone up to 66,23,815 while the death toll increased to 1,02,695. There has also been a reduction in the number of active cases, indicating that daily recoveries exceeded the number of infections. India's total number of active cases has come down to 9,34,427 on Monday.

9:01 AM: India has exceeded the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations on daily testing per million by nearly six times, according to the health ministry. WHO had earlier advised countries to conduct 140 tests/day/million population for comprehensive surveillance of suspected cases.
"India has exceeded 140 tests per day per million population as advised by the World Health Organisation by nearly 6 times. Several states/UTs have demonstrated better performance than the national average," said the health ministry.
8:55 AM: India's coronavirus tally is expected to cross 66 lakh on Monday after the health ministry provides the daily update on its website. The country has so far reported 65,49,374, of which 9,37,625 are active cases. The country has also recorded 1,01,782 due to coronavirus.
