Odisha Assembly witnesses uproar over alleged mining scam

Bhubaneswar, Oct 5 (UNI) Odisha Assembly today witnessed a ruckus after the members of the Opposition BJP and the Congress alleged huge scam in leasing of mines.
Raising the issue during zero hour Leader of Opposition Pradipta Naik said the lease deeds of a mining company was wrongly extended even though it was facing vigilance cases.
Mr Nayak said the state government with the collusion of some corrupt officials have misappropriated Rs one lakh crore by extending the lease period.
He said though he had written to the Chief Minister and apprised him of the state of affairs but no action had been taken..
Mr Naik in a letter on September 16 last had named a senior bureaucrat and some other officials of the Mining department for facilitating illegal mining and illegal extension of leases and demanded action against them for causing loss to the state exchequer.
Congress Legislature Party Leader Narasingha Mishra said the state had lost a revenue of Rs 3600 crore from nine mines during the last three years.
But treasury bench member Pratap Deb refuted the allegations made by the Opposition members.
He said all decisions had been taken as per the directive of the Supreme Court and the central government.
The opposition members should not create a ruckus in the house just to gain political mileage out of it.
