Quard ministers to discuss regional security, supply chain, technology

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) Foreign ministers of four Quard members--US, India, Japan and Australia--will on Tuesday discuss regional security, counter-terrorism, supply chains, cyber and critical technology and quality infrastructure in Tokyo on Tuesday.
The meeting, the first standalone one after the New York meeting a year ago, is going to be closely watched by China, whose role the ministers will be focusing on for its handling of corona virus pandemic and military muscle flexing in the Indo-Pacific region.
US Secretary of States Mike Pompeo said the ministers would have some "significant achievements ".
Host Japan's Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi has said the discussion, beside the post-Covid-19 international order would be held on regional issues. "It is very timely for the four foreign ministers showing the same concerns over the regional situation," said Moregi.
India which has been locked in a military confrontation in Ladakh, has also said there would be a discussion on regional issues.
Quard is a informal grouping of like minded partners formed to deepen cooperation in subregional issues and shape a more closely aligned Indo-Pacific region.
"Our shared values lead us to stand shoulder to shoulder in dealing with regional and global challenges," David Stillwell, US Assistant Secretary, East Asian and Pacific Affairs, said last week. Para He said together with other Quard partners, the US and Japan are committed to "stand up against PRC efforts to bully it's neighbours."
After the meeting, there won't be a joint statement.
The foreign ministers will issue individual statements.
