Body of woman who swept away in open manhole found at Haji Ali beach

Mumbai, Oct 5 (UNI) Body of a woman who was swept away in an open gutter in Ghatkopar area of the city has been found on the beach at Haji Ali in south-west Mumbai.
The woman, Sheetal Bhanushali, died after falling into a manhole while wading through stagnant water at Asalfa in eastern suburb of Ghatkopar.
She had gone out to fetch the flour but as her usual road was inundated with rain water, she decided to go the other way.
On the way, she fell into an open manhole and was carried away.
Eventually her body was found on the shores of Haji Ali recently.
Such incidents happen in Mumbai during monsoons. Due to the rains in Mumbai for last few days, there were incidents of waterlogging in many places. At this time the manhole is left open and the stagnant water is allowed to drain. However, there have been cases of people being swept away in these open manholes.
Earlier, three years ago during heavy rains in Mumbai, Dr Deepak Amarpurkar, a
gastroenterologist at the Bombay Hospital, went missing and his body was later found
on Worli beach. He died after falling into a manhole and his body was found near Worli.
