
New Delhi: Maharashtra’s test positivity rate crossed 23 per cent over the weekend, as testing in the state reduced to just over 57,000. The reduced testing in the state is worrying as it continues to have the highest number of active Covid cases in the country.
Active cases

With India’s R value below 1, the number of active cases in the country has stayed below the 10-lakh mark and has continued to decrease. The total number of active cases today is 9,34,427.
Number of deaths

In the last 24 hours, India registered 903 Covid deaths. The total number of reported deaths in India now stands at 1,02,685.
Mortality rate

The case fatality rate (CFR) in Punjab, which is the highest in the country, has further increased to 3.05. This is more than twice the national average CFR of 1.5. Maharashtra and Gujarat have also reported high fatality rates with 2.64 and 2.45, respectively.
Daily tests

A total of 9,89,860 tests were done in the 1,101 government and 768 private labs across the country in the past 24 hours. The total number of tests done till date stands at 7,99,82,394.
Positivity rate

Following the weekly trend of a spike in the positivity rate every Monday, due to dip in testing over the weekend, India’s test positivity rate currently stands at 7.5 per cent.
Recovered cases

A total of 76,737 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours, which increased the recovery rate to 84.34 per cent Monday from 83.70 per cent at the end of the last week. India’s total recoveries are 55,86,703, as of today.
Total cases

India so far has had a total of 66,23,815 Covid-19 cases. A total of 75,829 new confirmed cases were reported in the last 24 hours in the country.
High-burden states

In Maharashtra, the total number of Covid cases stands at 14,43,409, with 13,702 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours. The state has seen 38,084 deaths so far, with 326 deaths in the last 24 days. This brought the state’s mortality rate to 2.64 per cent.

Karnataka is the state with the second highest burden of active cases in the country. Over the last 24 hours, the state saw 10,145 fresh cases, bring the total number of cases in the state to 6,40,661. Of these, a little over 1.15 lakh are active cases.

Tamil Nadu has 46,120 active Covid cases and it recorded 5,489 new cases in just 24 hours. The number of active cases in the state has gone down after 5,558 patients were discharged. A total of 66 people died in the state in the last 24 hours and the number of confirmed cases in Tamil Nadu, so far, is 6,19,996.

Andhra Pradesh has reported 6,242 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 7,19,256. As many as 40 people have died in the state in the last 24 hours, and the total toll in state stands at 5,981.

Uttar Pradesh reported a total of 4,14,466 confirmed coronavirus cases so far, of which 3,930 were reported in the last 24 hours. The state has 46,385 active cases. With 52 deaths in the last 24 hours, the state’s death toll stands at 6,029.
Tests and positive cases

Maharashtra’s positivity rate is now at an alarmingly high 23 per cent. While last week, it had increased testing, inching closer to the one-lakh mark, the tests conducted over the last 24 hours were just 57,350.
On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh had conducted over 1.5 lakh tests and reported 3,930 positive cases in the last 24 hours.
