Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has reportedly chosen South African compatriot Cavin Johnson as his assistant at the Egyptian giants after Rulani Mokwena opted to remain at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mosimane was unveiled as the club's new mentor on a two-year deal on Friday after resigning as the Brazilians coach early last week.

The 56-year-old was keen to lure Mokwena with him to Cairo, but the former Orlando Pirates assistant coach decided to remain at Chloorkop as it was announced on Sunday that he is now co-coach of Masandawana alongside Manqoba Mngqithi.

According to the Soccer Laduma website, Mosimane has now earmarked Johnson, 61, as his second in command with the former Platinum Stars coach already on a flight to Egypt.

Mosimane has also lured Sundowns fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga and performance analyst Musi Matlaba as part of his backroom staff.

Mosimane has already taken charge of his first match after overseeing his side to a 1-0 victory against Al Mokawloon in an Egyptian Premier League clash.
