Nothing can be achieved through militancy, dozens of youth have shunned violence: DGP

Handwara, North Kashmir, Oct 4 (UNI) Advising youth to be ambassadors of peace and choose a career which will make everyone proud, Director General (DG) of Jammu and Kashmir police Dilbagh Singh said nothing can be achieved through militancy.

Speaking after declaring cricket tournament open here in this north Kashmir district of Kupwara on Saturday, DGP Singh said nothing can be achieved through militancy. Loss of any body’s life cannot be celebrated and militancy has brought only destruction to the families, societies, he added.

The DGP said that dozens of youth who were lured by agents of militant supporters accepted our appeal and are back to their families and added that Jammu and Kashmir Police is providing all its assistance in shaping the careers of our youth.

He said that he is happy to see the beautiful faces of energetic, talented youth. He advised them to be the ambassador of peace and choose a career which will make proud not only you, your families but the whole nation.

Recalling his days in Handwara, DGP said he started his career as Station House Officer (SHO) from Handwara and was very upset when this peace-loving place was disturbed because of militancy.

DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police aim to create positivity among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that before the winter sets in we are taking full advantage of the time to organise more and more such events for our youth and provide a platform where they can showcase their talent.

He also thanked India Cricketer Parvez Rasool and IPL Cricketer Manzoor Pandav for boosting the morale of the budding talent of Handwara.

The DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is putting in all efforts to get at least three best teams from South, Central and North Kashmir and them, we will get one best team. He said that it is a dream of Jammu and Kashmir Police to have a Kashmir Eleven Cricket team which will be famous in the Union Territory and also in the country for its talent.

He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police in the recent time has organized various sports activities across the Kashmir valley. He said starting from South Kashmir Women cricket tournament, 16 teams participated in Central Kashmir T20 Cricket Tournament and Bandipora a Mega Sports festival is going on and all our efforts are to provide opportunities to the youth who can grab them and show their talent to the nation.

Advisor to Governor R R Bhatnagar, who along with DGP jointly declared open the Handwara Police Cricket League-2020 at Sports Ground Bakihakar, Handwara, congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir Police for organizing such a big event.

He said that prosperity, development and peace can be achieved when we work towards it together. He appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs as it ruins lives, families and societies. He appreciated the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police in providing platforms to the budding talent of Jammu and Kashmir.

Later the DGP inaugurated Mess Hall for officers and Jawans at Police Station Handwara and a barrack for jawans in Police Component Handwara. He inspected the Police Component building and Police Station Handwara. He took the review of the crime situation in the Police Station and also interacted with the officers and jawans.

While interacting, the DGP appreciated their work done in maintaining the peace & order in the district. He directed them to be more alert and vigilant as the anti-national elements are trying very hard to disrupt the very hard-earned peace.
