Palghar: Teen rape victim commits suicide, kin allege police humiliation led to extreme step

Palghar, Oct 4 (UNI) A 19-year-old rape victim reportedly committed suicide here as she felt humiliated owing to the attitude of the police, alleged the kin of the deceased.
According to the Tulinj Police, the girl was wooed by a local youth, who abducted her and took her to his friend's house, and raped her repeatedly on the promise of marriage.
When the victim questioned him on the said promise, the accused initially gave the excuse that the marriage can't take place as the temples are shut due to the lockdown.
In between of all this, the kin of the victim had filed a missing person case and the girl along with the accused were traced. The youth was arrested and subsequently sent into judicial custody, stated police.
However, the girl ended her life by hanging herself on Friday at her residence in Nala Sopara suburb. A case of accidental death was filed and the body has been sent for a post mortem, it added.
A suicide note was also found, wherein, the victim says that she is taking the extreme step as he could not marry the accused. Hence, nobody is responsible for her death.
Similar suicide notes were also found scribbled in her book, which has become a point of investigation.
The kin of the victim have alleged that the girl ended her life in depression as he suffered humiliation due to the attitude of the police and the neighbors also abused her.
The police contends this claim, asserting that the suicide note nowhere mentions of such humiliation on part of the cops.
DCP Vijaykant Sagar has assured that if there is truth in the allegations then action would be taken on the officers concerned.
