Mamata leads a protest march against Hathras incident

Kolkata, Oct 03 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday led a protest march against the alleged Hathras "gangrape" incident.

The march started at 4 PM from Birla Planetarium and culminated at Gandhi Murti.

Ms Banerjee hit the road for a two-km march.

This was for the first time Ms Banerjee steppedped out in the city post COVID-19.

The Chief Minister tweeted, " Sabse bada pandemic toh @BJP4India party hai. Khatam kar diya desh ko." - @MamataOfficial #BJPHataoBetiBachao. "

" @MamataOfficial, staunchly believes in equality. She never differentiates between Dalits, minorities or other communities, " the party said.

" Under her leadership, today we hit the streets to protest against the uncouth @BJP4India

leaders & demand justice for our Dalit women! #BJPHataoBetiBachao, " the party added.

Yesterday, taking strong exception to Friday's incident at Hathras, the Trinamool Congress upped its ante against the BJP Government in Uttar Pradesh.

Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien said, " #GandhiJayanti International day of non-violence A brave reporter shot video of @AITCofficial MP Pratima Mondal (SC) here at Hathras 1km from victim's home.We r here on a peaceful mission to pay condolences to the grieving family. Lady MP was MANHANDLED by UP SDM #HathrasHorror."

Party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said, "Today under @myogiadityanath ji's surveillance state: Stopped from entering the #Hathras braveheart's village. Unarmed, peaceful protest, show of solidarity by other women— forgotten deeds in @narendramodi ji's dictatorship model. Shame on

@BJP4India."

Another party MP Kalyan Banerjee said, "@jdhankhar1 see how the woman MP of the @AITCofficial

had been detained and assaulted by the @UPPolice."

"If you are at all a human being, immediately protest against these brutal activities. Otherwise we will think you have been born to serve the antisocial of the @BJP4India members and their hooligan police forces," Banerjee stated.

State Higher Education Minister and party secretary-general Partha Chatterjee said, "Our @AITCofficial leaders will not back down at any cost! @narendramodi ji, @myogiadityanath

ji, the more you try to stifle our voices, the more we will fight every tooth and nail to ensure justice for #Hathras!"

"Clearly cops in the @BJP4UP government are trained to behave like “Gundas”! Heckling MPs, manhandling females is what @narendramodi ji has taught them! This Gundaraj is absolutely unacceptable & @AITCofficial will continue fighting against it! #DalitLivesMatter #Derek #Hathras," the party tweeted.
