Resentment among the people on Hathras issue: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Oct 3 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said there is groundswell of resentment among the people over the alleged Hathras gang-rape of 19-year-old girl.

He said even as the government has taken action against some police officers of Hathras district – the people are not satisfied and they view the government action as cover-up exercise. Akhilesh Yadav is presently in London and is arriving in Delhi on Sunday and he is likely to head straight towards the Bhulagarhi village in Hathras from the Delhi airport.
In a statement issued by the Samajwadi Party here on Saturday, SP chief said, "Justice demands that FIR be lodged against the guilty police officers so that the truth could come out." He said the family members of the victim and the villagers want to know as to under what pressure the district administration decided for the cremation of the rape victim at 3 am in the village which is against the ancient tradition of the country. He said the Yogi Adityanath government also owes an answer to the people as to why family of the rape victim was made hostage by the district administration of Hathras and why the police misbehaved with the MPs of the Opposition parties and they were not allowed to meet the family of the victim.
The former UP CM said even the BJP leaders have condemned the cremation of the body of the victim in a hurried manner. "It was an inhuman act not permissible in a civilised society. The human right commission, women commission and the court all have questioned the act of the BJP government for the cremation of the body at the dead of night," said the SP chief.
Mr Yadav alleged that the Yogi Adityanath government unleashed no holds barred repression against its political opponents on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
He said hundreds of Samajwadi Party workers proceeding towards the Gandhi statue at Hazratgtang to observe 'maun Vrat', were brutally lathi-charged and arrested. He said the SP leaders and MLAs were not even allowed to garland the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. Mr Yadav alleged that even the women workers of the Samajwadi Party were not spared by the police and they were dragged by the police. He alleged that the SP leaders and workers are being framed in false cases and are sent to jail. He said UP has not seen such kind of vendetta politics.
