New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries.
Taking to twitter, Mr Naidu said ,'On #InternationalDayOfNonViolence let us spread the message of peace, love and compassion.
Let us learn to resolve our differences and disagreements through dialogue & discussion.'
Quoting Mahatma in one more tweet, he said, “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.” These sagacious words of #MahatmaGandhi continue to remain relevant today in a world increasingly affected by strife and violence, he added.
The Vice-President also remembered former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary is on the same day as Mahatma Gandhi's.
Remembering the son of the soil Shastri ji, the Vice-President in a tweet said, 'His clarion call of “Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan” energised an entire nation to fight internal and external threats faced by the nation.'
'I join the nation in paying tributes to former Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri ji.Shri Shastri was an epitome of simplicity, humility and wisdom. He steered the nation through critical times with his exemplary leadership,' Mr Venkaiah's tweet read further.
