Chennai, Oct 02 (UNI) Tamil Nadu crossed the major milestone of conducting over 75 lakh Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests for novel coronavirus on Friday, when the State tested 84,991 samples in the last 24 hours.
With this, the cumulative tally of samples tested by RT-PCR in the State stood at 75,26,688 till date, as per the data issued by the Health department, this evening.
The number of COVID-19 recovered cases in the State surpassed the 5.50 lakh mark today. A total of 5,52,938 patients have recovered so far with 5,603 patients having been cured and discharged in the last 24 hours.
The State reported 5,595 fresh infections, taking the total caseload to 6,08,885 while 67 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 9,653.
The bulletin said of the 67 deaths, 43 were reported in government hospitals and 24 in private hospitals.
The total number of active cases stood at 46,294.
Chennai recorded 1,278 fresh cases today, taking the city’s total tally to 1,70,025 while the death toll increased to 3,241 with 14 more fatalities.
