Authorities initiate steps to prevent coronavirus infection among Jagannath temple servitors

Puri,Oct.1 (UNI) Puri district administration has taken a several steps to protect the servitors of Sri Jagannath temple from coronavirus infection

As per the new advisory all the servitors and persons entering into the temple would be screened with thermal imaging.

Wearing masks became compulsory and social distancing norms were strictly enforced. Those found violating the guidelines would be fined,the administration warned.
Sources said over 450 temple servitors have already been infected with Coronavirus.

Senior officials were monitoring through CCTV cameras from an integrated control room to ensure observance of covid-19 guidelines byteh temple servitors, staffs, temple security and police personnel on duty,Sub collector Bhabataran Sahu told media persons on Thursday

An increase in Covid-19 testing positivity rate in puri has become a major concern for the administration.

While the positivity rate of the state is 6.74 percent it is 10.91 percent in Puri district and the momentum continues since the last three weeks.

Sources said over 1200 tests are being conducted daily and till date 10,2111 samples were tested for covid-19 in the district.

With two more covid deaths reported in the district during the past 24 hours,the toll in the sistrict has gone up to 57.

Today 197 new corona positive cases including 70 from the pilgrim city were reported increasing the total affected in the district to 10211 of which while 8,733 have already recovered as many as 1422 active cases are under treatment.

Official sources said while the report of new cases from this pilgrim city has started receding since last week it has increased in the blocks.

The district has 26 active containment zones
