Batting first, MI posted 191/4 in 20 overs after a captain’s knock from Rohit Sharma (70) and a strong finish from Kieron Pollard (47*) and Hardik Pandya (30*), who added 62 runs from the last three overs of the innings. Rohit became the third person — after Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli — to reach 5000 runs in IPL history. Rohit kept losing partners as KXIP kept picking wickets regularly. They crossed the 100-run mark in the 15th over, and then shifted gears, with Pollard and Pandya taking over after Rohit’s wicket. KL Rahul (17) and Mayank Agarwal (25) got off to a strong start but KXIP were pegged back by Jasprit Bumrah and MI’s spinners. Nicholas Pooran (44) put on a counter-attack, but with his wicket, there was a slide of wickets, as the KXIP innings ended with 143/8.
Gowtham stays not out on 22. Bumrah finishes with 2/18. MI win by 48 runs. A big win.

Fifth wicket. Maxwell's time comes to an end. He finally falls to Chahar, Boult settling under the catch. Maxwell goes for 11 off 18 balls. Neesham is joined by Sarfaraz Khan. Rahul Chahar finishes with figures of 1/26. Bumrah is back to bowl his 3rd over from the other end.
Pooran edges one through to the keeper. Pattinson claims the wicket. Pooran, who was looking dangerous, is gone for 44 off 27. Neesham comes in at 6 with KXIP needing a bit of a turnaround.
Pooran finds the fence once against Bumrah but it is the bowler who has the better for most of the rest of the over. 7 runs off his over. Krunal Pandya is back to bowl the 13th over. Will be his last over. Finishes with dot balls. Just 5 runs from the over. MI teammates congratulate him for a brilliant spell of 1/27. Pooran on 42, Maxwell on 9.
Maxwell has trouble reading Chahar's loopy spin. An edge just goes over a leaping slip fielder. Pooran makes room and smashes a six down the ground against the leg spinner. 15 runs come off the 11th over. KXIP are just finding some of their momentum back. Maxwell joins Pooran at 5 with KXIP struggling in MI's spin web. Just 4 runs off Chahar's over. Pattinson back to bowl the 9th. And he gets the ball to beat Pooran's bat as well. Pooran comes back well with a flayed four through point. KXIP need 120 in the last 10 overs
KL Rahul is bowled. Chahar strikes this time. KL goes for the paddle sweep, misses the ball, and has his middle stump knocked over. He is out for 17 in 19 balls.
Pooran walks in at 4. MI continue with spin - Rahul Chahar bowls the 7th. Four singles off the over. Bumrah and the spinners have strangled KXIP after a strong start.
