The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police have lodged an FIR against 203 Congress leaders including former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday for violation of Section 144.
The FIR has been lodged at the Ecotech Forest Police station in Greater Noida.
According to information received from Gautam Budh Nagar Police Commissionerate, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Ajay Singh alias Lallu, Dipendra Singh Hooda, PL Punia, Sachin Pilot, Gautam Budh Nagar Congress president Ajay Chaudhary are accused of violating prohibitory orders under the Epidemic Act and putting the lives of the common man in distress due to infectious disease.
An FIR has been lodged against 153 congressmen including Noida Metropolitan Congress President Shahabuddin, Uttar Pradesh Congress general secretary Virendra Singh Guddu and Jitin Prasada. 50 unidentified persons have also been included in the FIR.
According to the police, the case has been registered under section 188 of IPC (violation of section 144 of the IPC i.e., section 144 of the CRPC), 270 (putting the lives of the common masses in peril during infectious disease) and section 4 of the Prevention of Infectious Diseases Act-1869 (violation of orders issued by the authorised officer).
The police said an investigation has been initiated into the case and legal action would be taken soon.
This is not the first time when a case has been registered against Rahul Gandhi in Greater Noida. Earlier too he in 2011 during the farmers’ agitation in Bhatta Parsaul, Rahul Gandhi rode a motorcycle pillion, marking a very dramatic entry into Bhatta Parsaul in solidarity with the farmers against the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. He sat with the farmers in their agitation for an entire day. He was then arrested by the UP Police and taken to an undisclosed location.
Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi were going to meet the aggrieved family at Hathras in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
