New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday paid tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, saying his message of truth, non-violence and love is going to pave the way for the welfare of the world by bringing peace and harmony in society.
Mr Kovind recalled the contribution of Gandhi on the eve of his 151st birth anniversary, and said every year
on October 2, "Gandhiji is remembered not only in India but all over the world. He remains a source of inspiration for all the humanity.
Stating that his life-story empowered and strengthened the weaker sections of society, Mr Kovind said "his
message of truth, non-violence and love paves the way for the welfare of the world by bringing about harmony and equality in the society. His values were as relevant yesterday as are today and will remain so in the future."
He said, there was awareness now that the solution to the greatest problem could be found through the path of
goodwill and tolerance suggested by Gandhiji, whose own life is a perfect example of walking this path.
"He taught us that we should behave well with those who are not even our well-wishers, and have a feeling
of love, kindness and forgiveness towards all. There should be harmony in our thoughts, words and deeds,"
the President reminded.
On the importance of morality and sanctity of practice and means espoused by Gandhiji in his works, Mr Kovind expressed happiness that efforts were being made by the government for the development of the country, such as Swachh Bharat Mission, women empowerment, empowering the poor and downtrodden, helping farmers and providing essential facilities in villages.
He urged the people that on this auspicious occasion to resolve to rededicate themselves "to the welfare and
progress of the nation, to follow the mantra of truth and non-violence, and to build a clean, capable,
strong and prosperous India, and to make Gandhiji’s dreams come true."
