New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) Before Covid-19, trains were often late due to heavy traffic on the Kanpur-Khurja railway line. But by March 2021, the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) work on this railway line will be completed and the grouse of the passengers removed.
Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said Thursday that the 350-km stretch of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) from Kanpur to Khurja will be commissioned by March 2021. After this, the entire load of the goods train will come on the dedicated corridor making existing railway lines fully available for passenger trains.
This section is part of the Delhi-Howrah main line. Due to reduced traffic load, a large number of passengers
will get relief.
Mr Yadav said the Rewari-Palampur railway section on Western DFC will also be commissioned by March 2021, the length of which is 650 km. Thus, by March 2021, 1,100 km of both DFCs will be commissioned. Of this, 500 km has already been commissioned, while 600 km is targeted to be commissioned in the next six months. The total length of both DFCs is 2,800 km.
He said for the complete commissioning of both DFCs, a target has been set for June 2022, but the Railways
are trying to complete this work by March 2022. Apart from this, operations will also be started on DFC's
feeder routes by June 2022.
