Senate to legislate on US-India partnership in clean energy

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) The coming days could see US investment in India's clean energy sector greater collaboration between the two countries and collaboration in clean energy technology and transmission.
A legislation to this effect was moved in the US Senate on Wednesday.
Bob Menendez, a ranking member of Senate Foreign Relations Committee, introduced the legislation, Proritising Clean Eenergy and Climate Cooperation Act 2020, that suggests setting up a forum to realise this.
The clean energy and power transmission partnership (CEPT) forum to facilitate joint research and development of clean technologies between laboratories and US investments in India.
"Given the shared threat of climate change and India's growing need for electricity, there is a strong case to be made for strengthening the US-India clean energy partnership," Menendez, introducing the legislation, said.
The legislation comes close on the heels of Congressional delegation that visited India late last year, during which he interacted with R K Singh, minister of new and renewable energy, and business leaders on developing and producing clean energy.
