Meghalaya CM inducts two new ministers

Shillong, Oct 1 (UNI) A day after sacking two of his cabinet ministers, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday inducted two legislators, one each from Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HDPDP) and National People’s Party (NPP), which leads the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.
Governor Satya Pal Malik administered the oath of secrecy to HSPDP legislator Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar and Dasakhiat Lamare of the NPP.
Lamare is the youngest member of the Meghalaya Assembly.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Sangma, Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, other Cabinet Ministers and officials of the Meghalaya government besides Chief Secretary M.S.Rao and other senior government officials.
Interestingly, none of the opposition Congress legislators, including Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma, were conspicuous by their absence.
The newly inducted ministers have replaced the Public Health Engineering Minister, Samlin Malniang of HSPDP and three times legislator and Fisheries Minister Comingone Ymbon of NPP.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that it was a decision taken with due consultation with the MLAs in the ruling coalition ever since the formation of the MDA, entailing reshuffling of the cabinet after two and half years in office.
“We welcome both the ministers to the Cabinet and we wish them all the best,” Sangma said, even as he congratulated his new cabinet colleagues.
This is the first time that Sangma inducted new ministers in cabinet since he was sworn in as Chief Minister after he was chosen as the leader of the ruling MDA after the 2018 assembly poll.
“There was an agreement for cabinet reshuffling after two and half years even
though, and the decision on the reshuffling was taken by the individual partners in the ruling coalition,” he said.
