Police prevents youth from joining militancy in central Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 1 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police have prevented yet another youth from joining militancy in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, a police spokesman said on Thursday.
He said inputs were received from different intelligence agencies that a youth identified as Umar Nazir Sheikh, a 22 year old resident of Ganderbal was in touch with some suspected militants in Bandipora and Pulwama.
He said a massive hunt was launched and he was finally apprehended and during the his questioning and verifying his Whatsapp and other networks, it was established that he was in constant touch with some suspected persons in Bandipora and Pulwama had planned to join militancy.

However, after his proper counselling by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khlil Ahmad Poswal and other experts in presence of his parents, he was handed over to his parents.

His parents expressed their gratitude to police for this gesture and thanked Ganderbal Police for saving their beloved one early before his life gets ruined, he said.
Mr Poswal said Anti-National Elements (ANE) from across the border are preying on gullible Kashmiri youth on various social media platforms and enticing them to joining militancy which needs to be curbed. However, he said parents should come forward and report any such activity of their wards so that they are mainstreamed through concerted counselling by experts.
As many as twenty youths, who had gone astray have joined the mainstream after shunning the path of militancy in the valley during this year.
