Senior journalist Ashwani Kapoor passes away

Chandigarh/Hoshiarpur, Sep 29 (UNI) Senior journalist Ashwani Kapoor succumbed to the deadly Novel Coronavirus at a private hospital in Ludhiana on Tuesday morning.
He was 70.
Ashwani was working as a senior correspondent of Punjab Kesari at Hoshiarpur.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh expressed grief over the demise of Ashwani Kapoor.
In a condolence message, the Chief Minister described Kapoor as a dedicated journalist and a fine human being, who was committed to the professional ethics and discharged his duties fearlessly throughout his long stint spanning over four decades.
He said with Kapoor's demise, a void had been created in the field of journalism, which was difficult to be filled.
Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family, relatives and friends, Capt Amarinder prayed to the Almighty to give courage to them to bear this huge loss in this hour of grief and grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
Media Advisor to the Chief Minister, Raveen Thukral also condoled the passing away of Ashwani Kapoor. He recalled Kapoor's remarkable services as a journalist, which would be always remembered by his fraternity.

Model Code in force in MP districts

Bhopal, Sep 29 (UNI) With announcement of the by-poll schedule on Tuesday for 28 Assembly constituencies – as many as 16 of them within Gwalior and Chambal divisions – of Madhya Pradesh; the Model Code of Conduct became effective in the districts concerned where voting is slated for November 3 – at 9,361 centres – and counting a week after that, it was officially learnt.
The process for submission of nomination papers will commence with issuance of notification on October 9 and continue till the 16th of that month. Scrutiny is to take place the following day and October 19 is the deadline for withdrawal of candidature. As the electoral process is taking place under the ominous shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous modifications have been effectuated.

Wife beating: IPS officer suspended in MP

Bhopal, Sep 29 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government late Tuesday placed under suspension a 1986-batch Indian Police Service officer who stands accused of assaulting his spouse.
Confirming the development, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Kumar Rajora said, “The action was taken against Special Director General of Police Purushottam Sharma.”

A departmental notice – seeking a reply by 1700 hrs – was issued on Monday to the bureaucrat after two videos went viral, one showing him targeting his wife and the other revealing his presence at a certain woman’s residence. His response was unsatisfactory.

MP CM urges higher urea quota

Bhopal, Sep 29 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday called on Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister DV Sadananda Gowda at the latter’s New Delhi workplace and urged enhancement – from 18 lakh metric tonnes (1 lakh MT as reserve) to 22 lakh MT – in urea allocation for rabi 2020-21.
“Owing to adequate precipitation, sown area vis-à-vis ​​wheat is expected to increase by approximately 10 lakh hectares compared to the previous rabi,” the visiting politician averred.
