WESTPORT - A local Scout has earned the Boy Scout’s highest rank advancement.

Gabriel Hall, 18, of Westport, has earned the Boy Scouts of America’s highest advancement award, the Eagle Scout Award. Hall was recognized in a ceremony on Aug. 5. A member of Troop #3, Hall is one of only approximately 6% of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to former Scoutmaster Shawn Morley.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue related service project to earn his Eagle; Hall chose to run a Christmas Gift Drive to benefit organization My Brother’s Keeper. “I have always been fortunate to receive presents every year but some kids won’t have that this year. I want to help give those kids a nice Christmas," said Hall.

Hall is a 2020 graduate of Bishop Stang High School and is currently pursuing a Computer Science degree from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. He began with his term in scout as a Tiger Cub Scout in the first grade and remains active in Troop 3 Westport as an Assistant Scoutmaster. He is the son of Stephen and Michele Hall of Westport.

Troop 3 serves boys age 12-18. Along with Pack 3, which serves boys and girls from kindergarten to fifth grade and Troop #33, which serves girls age 12-18, Troop 3 represents the Parish of St. George Church in Westport and Narragansett Council of the Boy Scout of America.

Scouting is completely funded by the generosity of local communities. The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and develops personal fitness. For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scoutsof America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible and productive society.
