12 sand-loaded tractors seized from Kanchi river, 28 taken into custody

Khunti, Sep 30 (UNI) In a major crackdown against illegal sand trade, a team of the district administration has seized 12 tractors from Kanchi river and has taken into custody 28 men involved in this business.
A joint team of the mining and forest department and local police conducted raids on Tuesday night based on a tip off about the illegal sand off take from the river, after which 12 tractor laden with illegally mined sand and 28 men involved in this business were taken into custody, SDM Hemant Sati said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
He said three tractor drivers managed to flee from the spot along with their vehicles.
The SDM said police are interrogating the illegal miners taken into custody.
The mining and the forest departments have been instructed to take necessary action against illegal miners.
