Teenager detained for stealing jewellery collectively worth around Rs 2.50 lakh from house of Navi Mumbai Samaritan

Thane, Sep 30 (UNI) The Navi Mumbai police on Wednesday detained a 17-year-old boy who had allegedly stolen gold jewellery from the house of a resident of Navi Mumbai, who had given him shelter during the lockdown and took care of him in good faith.
On September 27, the teenager went home under the pretext of having tea and fled with the bag containing the gold jewellery, police said.
The Vashi police had a difficult task to trace him out as his background was not known to anyone, however, the police used their network of informers, traced the boy to Subash Nagar of Jogeshwari and detained him today.
Police recovered the stolen jewellery and cash totaling Rs 2,49,700 (cash Rs 700) from the boy, who was attempting to dispose of the booty but could not.
The boy has since been handed over to the Child Welfare Board at Bhiwandi, sources added.
