Follow COVID protocol during functions or face action, SSP to people

Srinagar, Sep 30 (UNI) Reiterating his appeal to people to follow COVID-19 protocols to prevent a further surge in coronavirus infected cases during marriage ceremonies, political and social functions and religious gatherings, Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Haseeb Mughal said strict action would be taken against violators.
Talking to reporters on the sideline of a function here on Wednesday Dr Mughal said we again appeal to people to maintain social distancing and following other COVID protocols to prevent further spread of the virus.
We have noticed that during marriage ceremonies people are violating the guidelines, he said adding against the permission of 50 people, more than 500 guests are being invited for these functions. He said we have physically found 400 to 500 people are attending marriage ceremonies adding it is because of this reason we are visiting these places to remind them about the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the administration.
In fact, he said, after it was found that people are violating SOPs, we approached District Magistrate (DM), Srinagar who issued an advisory for such functions. DM has issued guidelines for marriage ceremonies, social and political functions and religious gatherings, he said adding but people are still violating them.
Adopting SOPs and maintaining social distancing will not only help to prevent the spread of coronavirus in their own locality but other areas also, Dr Mughal said.
He said the DM has also banned bursting of crackers during marriage ceremonies, particularly in the night. Srinagar is capital and sensitive city, where several types of security deployment have been made who always remain on high alert, he said adding bursting of crackers could create any confusion among the security grid which, God forbid, would lead to an accident.
For the safety and security of people DM has banned bursting of crackers during marriage ceremonies on the request by police, he said we have made people aware through media, including social media not to use crackers. Dr Mughal said till some people violate the order and use crackers and also invite more people. However, action under law would be initiated against these violators.
In reply to a question the SSP said recently we have received telephone calls from Batmaloo area of the city where people wanted to know about the loud sound of an explosion. We rushed our teams there only to find that crackers were used during the marriage ceremony, he said adding the case was registered against the bridegroom and his family. Bursting of crackers had caused panic in the entire locality, he said.
When asked about a similar incident at Solina in the uptown where family members of bridegroom have denied that they burst crackers during the marriage, Dr Mughal said I myself was witness to burst of crackers as I was passing that area on that time and date.
We have enough evidence of CCTV footage and other witnesses that family violated the order and burst crackers, he said adding action under the rule will be taken against them.
I again appeal to people to follow the protocol for the safety of their families, locality and society, the SSP said.
