Storm forward sent straight to judiciary for hip drop tackle

Melbourne's Max King has been referred straight to the judiciary for a hip drop tackle which had commentators seething and even prompted Greg Alexander to claim there was "an intent to injure".

The NRL's match review committee has ordered the 23-year-old to front the judiciary on Tuesday night after he was placed on report for the incident during the first half of the Storm's loss to St George Illawarra on Sunday.

Dragons prop Blake Lawrie limped from the field after the tackle, in which the Storm forward lowered his body weight onto the unprotected lower legs of the ball carrier.

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy ridiculed Alexander's suggestion after the match as the Storm prepare to take on the Eels in a qualifying final at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

"That's ridiculous, that is ridiculous," Bellamy said of Alexander's comment. "I'd be very disappointed in any player in the competition that goes out to intentionally injure an opposition player. That is ridiculous."

King's appearance at the judiciary will make for a busy night with Bulldogs forward Luke Thompson also asked to answer an allegation he eye-gouged Penrith captain James Tamou.
