This year’s summer season came to end in Bulgaria with an 80% drop in the number of tourists, as per Polina Karastoyanova, the executive director of the National Tourism Board, reported on September 24th by Investor.bg
The tourism sector of Bulgaria is a major contributor to the country’s economic growth, was hit tremendously by the pandemic.


In the tourism sector of Bulgaria, between 25 to 30% of people lost their jobs in spite of the support of the government in helping the companies to keep hold of the employees.


For the upcoming winter tourism season, Karastoyanova explained that the authorities are working on a particular plan and for the summer season of 2021.


Even though she noted that several companies in the sector are at major risk of bankrupt and that the government should play the role of investor and enter the industry and help those companies stay afloat.


In August, Tourism Minister Mariana Nikolova stated that the government anticipated a year-on-year decline of 40% in the number of tourists visiting the country in winter 2020.
