Prague was a lively hotspot for European tourists before it witnessed lockdown due to the ongoing pandemic. But now, all thanks to the ‘Prague Unlocked’ campaign, the city is springing back into action again.
Almost 60,000 people, mainly from the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, and Slovakia, visited the metropolis for a holiday in the past few months.
The success rate of this highly hopeful tourism development has led to the Prague City Tourism to lengthen the campaign until the end of this year.
The campaign was launched in July for resuming tourism in Prague, which had come to a complete standstill overnight. Under this campaign, tourists could gain free tickets to the Old Town Hall, galleries or opt for guided tours across the city. According to officials, the campaign benefited the city immensely!
The free tickets gave right of entry to almost 80 tourist attractions, while more than 400 accommodation facilities took part in the campaign. The Prague Zoo, Prague Castle and the Petrin Tower were the most visited sites.
The famous Mariánské Námestí square in front of Prague’s City Hall is getting a facelift for making it more tourist-friendly. The new square will see newly planted maple trees, benches and water fountains and would be a place of rest and a cultural events zone. The overhaul will increase the metropolis’ tourism appeal, as the city council aims increasing visitors to the region.
